Odysseas Elytis Amphitheatre

If travelling to Ios, a visit to the Odysseas Elytis Amphitheatre is a must-see on your list. This is an open-air theatre, in ancient Greek style, built on local stone and marble, which still hosts plays and events. Besides architecture, its views of the Aegean Sea, Hora and Mylopotas beach are breath-taking.

Skarkos Archaeological Site

Travel back in time and discover Cycladic history with a visit to the largest settlement of the Proto-Cycladic era. This is one of the most well-preserved settlements of that era and has been honoured with the Cultural Heritage award by the European Union. It is located on the west side of the island, across from Sikinos, atop the hill of Skarkos.

Homer’s Tomb

One of the many gems one has to discover on Ios is the so-called “Homer’s Tomb”, a tower, on the north side of the island, on the hill of Psathopyrgos, which –according to researchers– is one of the candidate spots for the actual burying grounds of Homer. The spot offers unique views of the island, something that comes as a fine reward after the 10-minute climb to get there.

Explore by boat

Pick one of many excursions by boat available across the island and discover the beaches of Ios. The island runs a number of boat trips that get you to secluded and remote beaches boasting crystal clear waters and a dazzling scenery. Choose the trip that suits you best and explore parts of the island more accessible from sea to swim in pristine waters.
