Manganari: the most beautiful beach in Ios
Ask locals and regular visitors which is the most beautiful beach in Ios and most will say Manganari. On the southern tip of the island, it is not one beach but a string of sandy coves with fine sand and very clear, shallow water in shades of turquoise. The setting is wild and open, with low hills behind the sand and no big buildings in sight.

Agia Theodoti and the quiet east coast
The east coast of Ios feels far from the busy west side, even though the island is small. Agia Theodoti is the main beach here: a sandy bay with a few tavernas, below the ruins of Paleokastro, the medieval castle of the island. It is a calm choice for a long lazy day, and the drive across the island is part of the experience.
Further along the coast you find Psathi, a quiet bay with a traditional feel, and the more remote beaches of the southeast such as Kalamos, the beach of Papa and Sapounochoma. Some of these are reached by dirt roads, so a car or an ATV is useful, and there are few or no facilities. That is exactly the appeal: clear water, rocks, and often only a handful of people.
